bio
Based in Melbourne, Australia, Alex Slattery reminisces on his time growing up on the Far North Coast of New South Wales. Channeling memories of character of people and places from his past, with a sense of nostalgia of a bygone time, Slattery works the paint in a playful, thinned and tender manner.
Today, Slattery works both as an artist, as well as a paint maker at Langridge Artist Colours, bridging the gap between creation and alchemy. Slattery's canvases serve as windows into the vast tapestry of the human experience, capturing the nuanced interplay between our innate animalistic traits and the aspiration of our higher selves. His work pairs humour and drama to explore themes of play, journey, age and stoicism. In each painting, there is a contemplation of the discord between our primal instincts and the societal structures that seek to civilize them.
